Steamboat Springs, Colorado - A luxury Honka log home imported from Finland is currently under construction in Steamboat Springs near the Sheraton golf course. The house will feature round logs that are kiln-dried and pre-cut using Honka’s patented methods. Also, shipped from Finland are Honka’s exclusive triple-pane low-e Scandinavian style casement wood windows and solid exterior doors, which exemplify the energy-efficiency in Honka’s world leading log building system. These logs are great performers in the dry Colorado climate,” says Pekka Laine, President of Honka Homes USA. “This is going to be a showcase project for Honka in Steamboat Springs,” he adds.

Established in Finland in 1958, Honka Log Homes is the world’s largest log home manufacturer. Honka has delivered nearly 70,000 log homes to 36 countries and is four times larger than its next largest competitor. Honka is also a publicly traded company on the Helsinki Stock Exchange. Honka Homes USA’s corporate headquarters is located in Evergreen, Colorado, and they have had recent local projects in Aspen, Vail/Minturn, Conifer, Breckenridge, Denver and now Steamboat Springs.

Honka is also supplying 15 log buildings to the Minturn Racquet & Trout Club Development, which is under construction in Minturn, Colorado. 12 homes have been delivered and several more are on their way in 40’ ocean containers shipped from Honka’s factory in Finland.

Other significant reference projects include a home in Park City, Utah for football legend Steve Young of the 49ers. His impressive 17,000 sq.ft. “log castle” is one of the largest log home private residences Honka has ever built. Introduced by mutual contacts, Young became impressed with the Honka product and trusted the world leader in the industry to handle his pet project. Since this project was completed, however, Honka sold a private residence nearly three times the size of Young’s home to an unnamed individual in Russia.

The Honka home being built in Steamboat will be the grand introduction of Honka Homes to the Steamboat market. The developer of the project is Steamboat Log Home Developers, LLC, a local company. Steve Malacinski, one of the partners is excited about the prospects offered by the Steamboat market for Honka Homes and vice-versa. He states, “If you are planning to build a home in Steamboat Springs, we have a great team in place to take care of the entire process. Our team consists of professionals who can help you design, build and even finance your dream home. One of these local experts is Shawn Sullivan, of Sullivan Construction of Steamboat, Inc., the General Contractor of the project. “We can help make your mountain building experience a pleasant one, “ says Shawn. The architectural services are provided by TK Design Group of Evergreen, CO, an expert in the design of Honka log homes with hundreds of Honka designs as references.

Football legend Steve Young, retired quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, has signed a contract with Honka Homes USA, to build a 17,000 square foot "log castle" in Park City, Utah. Honka's local builder/dealer, Natural Choice Construction, in Park City is currently building the home. Young's Honka home will be the single largest private residence ever sold by Honka.

Negotiations between Young and Honka Homes USA began nearly two years ago on the football player's dream home project. Introduced by mutual contacts, Young, became impressed with the Honka product and trusted the world leader in the industry to handle his pet project. The plan is to have the home largely finished in time for the Salt Lake City Olympics. The home is ideally situated to take advantage of the numerous Park City Olympic venues. Young has also agreed to support Honka by allowing Honka to use his home to host VIP events during the Olympics.

While the Young home is being erected, just down the road another impressive Honka home is nearing completion. The sales and design center for Honka's local dealer, Natural Choice Construction, is also being built in Park City. This will serve as a retail outlet for the Honka product in the Salt Lake City region.
